It seems Amare Stoudemire is poised to accept a 5 year/$100 million maximum deal from the New York Knicks, according to multiple sources. Having played with the Phoenix Suns for his entire career thus far, this move would reunite Stoudemire with coach Mike D'Antoni, who coached the Suns from 2004-08.
Stoudemire is one of the biggest names on the free agent market and had been rumored as talking to several teams. With Phoenix re-signing Charlie Frye and picking up PF Hakim Warrick in free agency, it has become apparent that Amare's days in a Suns uniform are over.
While Amare could clearly use a change of scenery, New York may not be Stoudemire's best option. With more promising teams such as Chicago, Miami, and even New Jersey still holding large amounts of cap space, he could've found a better team to sign with, in my opinion.
This could be the Knick's first move towards luring LeBron to sign with the franchise. While most experts think James wants to team with Dwyane Wade and/or Chris Bosh, Stoudemire is another player that would potentially mesh well with LeBron's style of playing. While the Knicks may be adding an impressive piece to their team, will it be enough to lure LeBron James to the Big Apple? It's unlikely in my opinion, but in a summer packed with free agent drama, nothing is certain.
