Contrary to what many reports have stated over the past few weeks, the San Diego Chargers are apparently not looking to move disgruntled wide receiver Vincent Jackson. While Jackson will miss the first three games of the season, regardless of who he plays for, because of his second DUI charge, he is still by far the best receiver on the Chargers roster.
Jackson has been in a very nasty contract dispute with the Chargers, one of the main reasons many analysts expected him to be playing for a new team this year. It started when he refused to sign his tender, along with teammate Marcus McNeill, causing his salary to drop from $3.268 million to $600,000.
Without a salary cap in place, many players who thought they would be free to sign with new teams this offseason suffered and were stuck with a "restricted" tag, meaning a team attempting to sign the player would have to compensate their former team with draft picks. This has made it very difficult for some players to change teams and left many stuck playing for franchises they would have preferred leaving.
With many teams already making moves to pick up wide receivers this offseason, it seems highly unlikely Jackson will be anywhere other than San Diego this season. He has already said he is prepared to sit out the entire 2010 season in protest of his deal, and with the chances of him finding a new decreasing daily, it seems Vincent Jackson might not be playing on any NFL field this season.
