Superstitious Much? Jason Terry Wears '06 Heat Championship Shorts To Bed

By: Tyler Ward

Perhaps one of the most superstitious players in the game, Mavericks guard Jason Terry went to sleep last night in something that no one expected.

He didn't sleep in his boxers or in the nude, in fact he did have shorts on.

They weren't Target brand shorts or Mavericks pajamas, but they were his opponent's shorts, the Miami Heat. Not only were they Heat shorts, but the ones from the 2006 Finals.

Ya know, the series that the Mavericks infamously choked while holding a 2-0 lead?

They would go on to lose the next 4 games as Dwyane Wade and his Heat celebrated the Mavericks' woes.

And not to mention, Terry didn't just buy these shorts from a store. Gary Payton, who was on the 2006 championship team, gave them to Terry after the series was over.

"Gary Payton gave me some back when they beat us," said Terry. "I slept good."

According to Terry, he wears a pair of his opponent's game shorts to bed the night before games, a superstition that he has had since he was in college at Arizona.

He admitted that he could be very superstitious at points.

Although it really isn't a superstition, Terry got the Larry O'Brien Trophy tattooed on the inside of his right bicep in hopes of actually taking home the real thing this season. He, of course, did this before the season started in October last year.

He also mentioned that he would get the tattoo removed if his Mavericks can't beat the Heat in their rematch of the 2006 Finals.\\

The 2011 NBA Finals start tonight at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.
