As most of you already know, the life of Lorenzen Wright was tragically taken in an act of violence two weeks ago in Memphis, Tennessee. The circumstances surrounding his death remain cloudy, and the Memphis Police Department is currently following leads and trying to make progress in finding Wrights' killer. The MPD has officially ruled the death as a homicide.
Police have searched the home of his ex-wife, Sherra Wright, and while they claim she currently isn't a suspect and that the search was just a formality, there have been growing reports that she may have been involved. Police say they searched her property, especially the backyard, because neighbors reported seeing smoke coming from the backyard the night he went missing. This is unusual because it was one of the hottest nights of the summer.
Reports have now emerged that his ex-wife may have made threatening remarks to Lorenzen in the past, threatening to "have him f**ked him up if she caught him with someone else". While it's remained to be seen if police have listened to the tapes provided by Wendy Wilson, Lorenzen's former personal assistant, I'm sure they will listen to them soon. Upon hearing the threats, Wilson claims she told Lorenzen and his parents about the threats.
Something else that I thought about earlier today is what exactly happened to the "friend" Lorenzen was supposedly with? To my knowledge, their has been no official mention of him by the police, or anyone else for that matter. The police usually won't give out details that are vital to their cases, which makes you wonder if he may have been involved in some way.
There has also been a lot of talk about how the Germantown Police Department handled the 911 call that came from Wright's cell phone the night of his disappearance. The person who took the call waited almost a week before telling his superiors about it. Within hours, several local police departments searched the area from where the call was made and found his body. There are reportedly more than ten gunshots heard in the background of the call.
As someone who has personally dealt with the GPD on several occasions, I can tell you with complete honesty that their department has no idea what they are doing. There will be an investigation into how the call was handled and hopefully someone from their department will pay for such a mistake. Police officers will show up to your door over accidentally 911, but they did nothing when they received this call with gunshots in the background.
Lorenzen will no doubt be greatly missed, especially in the Memphis area, where he starred at college for the University of Memphis and also played with the Memphis Grizzlies during his professional career. Wright played in more NBA games than any former Memphis Tiger. He was also reportedly scheduled to visit with a team in Israel and potentially had atleast two invites to NBA training camps.
R.I.P Lorenzen
You Will Be Missed - Hopefully you're with your daughter now and thanks for all of the great memories.
