Milwaukee is slowly becoming on the most well rounded teams in the NBA. Today, the Bucks made another addition by signing PF Drew Gooden to an estimated $32 million/5 year contract. With yet another solid offseason acquisition, the Bucks have put themselves in prime position to make a deep run in the postseason this year. Anything short of landing home court advantage will be a huge disappointment for Milwaukee.
The Bucks have been the busiest team so far this offseason, acquiring players through trades and via draft. Milwaukee's first deal, which brought the team Corey Maggette, may have replaced John Salmon's scoring instantly. Maggette has always been a quality player and will definitely bring energy and high scoring to an already fast paced Bucks team. If he can stay healthy throughout the season, Maggette could average as many as 22-25 points per game this season with all of the quality talent around him.
In what may turn out to be a huge acquisition, the Bucks traded a future second round pick to New Jersey for Chris Douglas-Roberts. While this was an obvious salary dump by the Nets, they may end up regretting their decision to let go of CDR for so little in return. If Douglas-Roberts starts for Milwaukee this season, will likely average 12-15 points per game, but will also bring hustle to the team. CDR has always been best known for being an all around athlete.
Today's signing of Drew Gooden gives the Bucks a veteran power forward that will likely inherit the starting spot. Gooden has been somewhat of a journeyman since entering the league, but he has always been a solid contributor with each team. If he can average a near double-double, the Bucks will have one of the best frontcourts in the East, combining Gooden with Andrew Bogut. I expect him to average atleast 12 point and 8 rebounds per contest this season.
With the Bucks already having young superstars like Brandon Jennings and Bogut, they have strengthened almost every position on their roster. They will be contending with the Cavaliers and Bulls for the division, but depending on where all of the free agent dominos fall, the Bucks could find themselves with a very real chance of winning the division this season. With teams like the Hawks and Celtics seemingly downgrading or aging, Milwaukee is in a great spot to take advantage of their chance to go far into the postseason.
