Why would LeBron James want to play for the New York Knicks? For a few million more dollars than he may or may not make elsewhere? That's the only legitmate reason you can give unless you want to shoot for "Greatest Savior in the History of the NBA", because that's what it would take for James and the Knicks to work out positively. He would have to come in and save a decade long, multi-coached, overpaid trainwreck that has been the New York Knicks. By the time Isiah Thomas (the worst GM in NBA history) was fired by the team, he had completely butchered any chances the team had of success for atleast 10 years in my opinion.
Not only did he toss out cash to bad players such as Eddy "20 Piece McNuggets" Curry and Jerome James, but he also gave the team a horrible reputation will that will be difficult to shake. Add in the fact the franchise has never had sustained success, I don't think they'll get any of the top free agents. The ones they may sign, Amare Stoudemire or Rudy Gay, would be given the absolute maximum money because there is no other incentive for them to sign here. Just took a look at some of the faces of a few Knicks head coaches from the past decade and you'll see why James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh won't waste their primes for this franchise:
