Bradford To Get Richest Deal Ever?

By: Stephen Patterson

There are reports that representatives for Sam Bradford and the St. Louis Rams are expected to lay the groundwork for a deal to give him the richest deal in NFL history. The deal being discussed is believed to include between $45 and $50 million guaranteed, easily surpassing the $41.7 million Detroit's Matthew Stafford received last year for the Lions. The deal is expected to be completed before training camp.

Bradford played his collegiate career at Oklahoma and was a star with the team before suffering a serious shoulder injury against BYU. While he tried to return from the injury, his season ended after a hit against Texas and he decided not to risk further damage to his arm. Even though Bradford proved he has what it takes to be a winning quarterback, paying that much guaranteed money to someone with a history of shoulder injury to play quarterback is ridiculous.

He will join a St. Louis team coming off a horrid 1-15 season in which they finished with the worst record in the NFL. The Rams' roster also has very few bright spots, with running back Steven Jackson being the only true star on the team. Bradford will have a lot of work to do if he intends to turn St. Louis into a winning team, and he doesn't have too many targets to help him out. Some of his notable receivers this season will include: Danny Amendola, Donnie Avery, Brooks Foster, and Brandon Gibson. Mardy Gilyard, also a rookie, will be Bradford's only legitimate big threat receiver as it looks now. St. Louis fans shouldn't expect to get their moneys worth out of this investment right away.
